From the artist
Terri is a pastel artist living with her husband in Leland, NC. Together, they have traveled throughout the US, Europe, and Africa, and along the way she has taken extensive photos as references for her paintings. “I love art, nature and traveling, and I am happy that I can combine my loves. Painting scenes from my photos brings back the memory, experience and the story of when I took the photo, and those feelings become a part of the painting. I also love drawing people and animals and capturing their spirit and colors in a way we don’t always see.”

About the artist
Terri works in pastels, a medium used by artists since the Renaissance, that comes in the form of a stick consisting of powdered pigment and a binder resulting in a medium that has the highest pigment concentration. Although pigments used in pastels are the same as those used in other visual arts, such as oil paints, the color effect of pastels is closer to natural pigments than any other process. As a result of this pure pigment, pastel paintings glow with intense luminous color and rich velvety texture, reflecting light without darkening refraction, and allowing for very saturated colors. A pastel painting is made by moving the sticks over an abrasive surface, so Terri works on sanded papers such as UArt, Coulorfix, and Pastelmat, among others.

Terri has been featured in several Leland and Wilmington Magazines. She is a member of the Pastel Society of North Carolina, the Art League of Leland, and the Coastal Carolina Pastel Painters, has won several awards in NY, and has shown her work in many NC shows, including the NC Azalea Festival Art show and the Landfall art show and sale.
