About the Artist

Harris’ style has often been referred to as a dreamscape-not a landscape or seascape: a painting that is not surrealistic yet not quite realistic or impressionistic either. Ultimately, Harris attempts to capture an ideal version of what we may view in a landscape or coastal scene. A dreamy place where your outer feelings intersect with your inner visualization of what reality could look like.

Having painted for over forty years, Harris has been influenced by the artists he has studied under, as well as, through the classes he has taken at the State University of New York at Oswego. He has developed collegial relationships and received direct instruction from local central New York masters like Richard Williams, Frank Kraft, and George Benedict. Over the years, Harris’ style has evolved from his love of second-generation Hudson River School artists like John D. Barrow and George Inness.

Robert is currently a member of the Arts Council of Wilmington and the Associated Artist of Southport. Other works of his can be found on display at the Franklin Square Gallery, Southport, NC. He can also be reached through email [email protected]
